Fall Prevention Tips

Nearly every five hours, a Hawaii senior is hospitalized because of falling. Approximately 75% of falls occur in the home and may be avoided by taking these simple precautionary steps:

  • Get regular exercise to help balance and coordination;

  • Get your vision checked regularly;

  • Get your physician to check the medications you are using for possible interaction which could cause dizziness;

  • Put a lamp on each side of the bed;

  • Use night-lights to provide more light at night in rooms and hallways;

  • Install grab bars in the bathroom;

  • Make sure electrical cords are out of pathways.

     
    By following these simple tips, you could help avoid unnecessary accidents.
